**Availability and Scope of Work Notice for Residential Projects, updated November 15, 2024**
Hello everyone.
Over the last few years, I have been lucky and blessed to have grown my commercial engineering business. This comes with the trade-off that I have limited time these days for one-off residential renovation projects.
If you are looking for a residential structural engineer, at this point I would recommend continuing to shop around for a licensed sole proprietor Professional Engineer or P.L. Eng., or an engineering company that is primarily focused on this scope of work, who can work with you on your project schedule.
Thanks very much and have a great day!
Dave Bernardin, P.Eng.
Hello and welcome to Dave Bernardin Consulting Inc. My name is Dave Bernardin and I am a licensed Professional Engineer based in Calgary. I am licensed to practice in Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, NWT/Nunavut, the Yukon, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador.
My discipline is structural design and engineering. I can provide structural review, structural design, and stamped and sealed CAD drafted drawings, letters and reports. I am available for both residential and commercial projects.
I am familiar with the design of wood framing, light gauge steel stud and structural steel, and cast in place concrete. All of my designs reference the National Building Code, as well as appropriate design codes for the material at hand. Design calcs are available to submit to coordinating consultants for commercial projects.
My office hours are Monday to Friday, 8AM to 4PM. Feel free to call and leave me a message outside of these hours. Email or a phone call are preferred for setting up new jobs, rather than text messages. I am often on the job site during the day, so if you send me an email request about a new project, it may take me a day or so to get back to you, as I prefer to make these responses at a computer as opposed to on my phone. Also, to help with scheduling, please note that in general, I am booking about 1-2 weeks out for site visits for new projects from when it the project is approved, and typically about a 1-2 week turnaround time for reports, drawings, deliverables. This is due to my being a one person operation, and new projects are put into the queue on a first come first served basis. It is very important to me that my clients have timely service that works for both yours and my schedule, so please consider this if your project is a rush.
